Kevin Tyrrell
AIA, LEED AP
Principal, Education Studio Leader
Los Angeles, California
Kevin serves as principal and education studio leader in Corgan’s Los Angeles office. His work is focused on enhancing the firm’s reputation in education architecture by leading key projects, building connections with schools and universities, and pushing for innovative, sustainable design that meets the changing needs of educational spaces. His belief that architecture can embody our nobler nature was affirmed as a student, when he first experienced a well-designed school and was inspired to pursue a career in architecture.
With over 35 years of experience in the field, Kevin is an expert in creating sustainable, human-centered designs for both K-12 and higher education. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in the design and delivery of education and urban design projects with a strong focus on sustainability — he has worked on over 3 million square feet of LEED-certified buildings. Kevin’s leadership skills, relationship-building abilities, and deep knowledge of the Southern California market make him a valuable member of our education team. While his primary focus is the oversight of education projects, Kevin’s background in urban design, civic, housing, mixed-use and commercial projects is broadly utilized. On each project, he is heavily involved from initial design concepts to the smallest details, working closely with clients throughout the process. He is also an authority on alternative project delivery methods, such as design-build.
While Kevin believes that empathy is key to impactful decisions throughout the design process, his passion to improve educational outcomes for all students extends beyond school design. Kevin and his wife, an education innovator, founded a social-impact educational non-profit that addresses critically important equity issues faced by students and young adults who are neurodiverse by serving them throughout their educational journey and transition to the workplace.
