Passionate about historic preservation, Karl is dedicated to honoring, restoring, and extending the life of our nation’s most vital American historical landmarks. With more than three decades helping federal government agencies fulfill their mission through modernizing public buildings and workplace environments, his portfolio includes such notable projects as the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters, the Smithsonian Castle, and several federal courthouses and U.S. Embassies.
His professional work also includes large-scale corporate workplaces, the National Park Service, and the Department of Defense. A long-time resident of our nation’s capital, Karl has cultivated a deep knowledge and broad network of local clients and consultants in the design community and is leading Corgan’s efforts to expand in Washington, D.C.
“D.C. is a culturally rich diverse city with residents from practically every country in the world – it’s just natural that Corgan grows its presence here for the opportunities to work with many domestic and international clients,” he says. Among his lengthy list of affiliations with professional organizations, Karl serves on the national AIA Historic Resources Committee to elevate and expand the role of the preservation architect and is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). He has received numerous design awards and recognitions and is an accomplished public speaker and author with articles appearing in numerous peer-reviewed journals and nationally recognized publications.
Outside of work, Karl enjoys spending time at the beach with his family and volunteers as a swimming official at USA Swim meets.
