Rick Ryan
AIA, NCARB
Associate Principal, Aviation Studio Leader
New York, New York USA
Working in residential construction in high school, Rick found himself fascinated with the process of building and came to see architecture as a way to have more influence on the final product. Now, after nearly 30 years in the industry, Rick has led design teams in all phases of project development, design, and construction for a range of aviation-related projects as well as military facilities, corporate interiors, and retail spaces.
Aviation, however, remains Rick’s true passion. “I started my career in Aviation, fell in love with it, and have been involved with it ever since,” he says. “The buildings and spaces we design are experienced by millions of people, which is humbling.” The new Delta Air Lines Terminal at LGA is among his proudest achievements. In addition to leading the New York Aviation Studio, he is director of our New York City office.
In his free time, Rick likes to escape the man-made environment, preferring to hit the trail on his mountain bike. “It provides both relaxation and excitement, especially going downhill, just at the edge of control,” he says. “That gives you focus and shuts out the outside world.”
