As the fourth data center built on Iron Mountain Data Center’s Manassas campus, the purpose-built facility is part of the master plan for the 83-acre 140-acre campus. Built on a smaller footprint than typical and locked in on all sides by roads on a tight site, the two-story precast structure is limited to deliver 28 MW due to site constraints. Built with sustainability in mind, this data center along with all of Iron Mountain Data Center’s facilities is consistent with the Uptime Institute Tier II guidelines and is powered by 100% renewable energy.
Borrowing design and materiality choices from their Arizona campus signifying Iron Mountain’s new branding, VA6 is the first data center to reposition the brand on a Virginia campus. The design solves for the region taking into consideration wind loads, climate concerns, and locally sourced materials. A precast façade adds interest with branded elements and floor to ceiling corner windows that capture attractive views to the roads on all sides and provide visibility for the brand.
