Texas Hospitality

As distinctive as its location, Chase’s new lounge at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is a vibrant celebration of the spirit of Austin—energetic, agile, off-beat, and personal. The Chase Sapphire Terrace is a departure from traditional club lounges with a spacious outdoor terrace coupled with an intimate lounge area. Flexible, fluid, and connected, the indoor-outdoor design showcases a new take on hospitality and the passenger experience.

Nature & Community

Stationed above the busy concourse, members enter an archway and step into a breathtaking canvas of windows, natural light, tropical greenery, and a paint-on glass mural of Texas native wildflowers. The terrace invites a sense of community with interactive activities and plane spotting while welcoming guests to a variety of zones with a mix of seating options to relax and socialize.

Lounge Around

Relax, Eat, and Play

Display shelves and box cabinets add visual interest and functionally divide the space—carving out spaces for conversation, to refuel and recharge, or plug-and-play stations for business travelers. Grab some fresh air and squeeze in a game of shuffleboard or cornhole on the outdoor deck. Visit the canteen to enjoy grab-and-go bites or a local beer and wine in one of the lush lounge areas.

Flexible Furniture

Inspired by a pop-up approach, the design repurposes the existing deck to bring to life a vision of a more comfortable travel experience by taking advantage of moveable furniture and soft architecture interventions. The elevated design maintains flexibility to meet future demands and traveler preferences.

Agile Design

In the bar service area, space-saving furniture units and stand-alone racks take the place of built-ins and millwork. Freed from the limitations of more permanent electrical and mechanical systems, the lounge not only accommodated the compacted project timeline while affording adaptability to test and evolve the concept, but also reflects the iconic culture of Austin marked by connectivity, agility, and change.
