Helping prepare students to enter the workforce.
The Barbara Jordan Career Center replaced an existing comprehensive high school with a new Career and Technology Education (CTE) center serving 650 students, who come from their home campus each day for focused instruction and hands-on learning in programs such as cosmetology, childcare and education, culinary arts, welding, automobile technology, allied nursing, dentistry, video production, and architecture/construction.
Monthly meetings with a broad and varied group of stakeholders, including staff, faculty, board members, students, and parents brought critical user input to inform the design solution and community engagement throughout the design and construction project.
Sustainably Designed
The design prioritized energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and diversion of construction waste to achieve LEED-Silver certification.
Accessible Career Training
Located in the largest school district in Texas, the facility serves multiple schools, more than doubling the number of students getting a career and technical educational experience.
