To elevate the United C1 Lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport, United commissioned Corgan’s to provide a complete renovation to meet the preferences and expectations of modern air travelers. Inspired by New York’s iconic Midtown landmarks, the design celebrates iconic landmarks like Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library. Approachable and inviting, forms are simplified throughout for a contemporary context while finishes introduce layered warmth into the space.

Memorable moments
As visitors enter the space, a celestial scene on the ceiling guides guests into the new lounge — a warm gesture that celebrates local artists creating a moment of surprise and a nod to Grand Central. Approachable and inviting, wood tones and brass finishes layer warmth into the space and provide a sense of place reflective of New York City. Curated furniture ranging from banquettes and high tops to barstools and cozy loungers offers just enough variety to accommodate every type of passenger. Open display shelves and library lamps add finishing touches along with an expansive bar framing views back to the city.
Classically elegant and refreshingly modern
The renovation includes a complete reconfiguration and rightsizing of key amenities including expanding the bar and buffet, adding a centralized restroom block, and integrating vertical circulation to enhance the passenger experience. As guests move through the lounge, they are introduced to vignettes of lounge seating, intimate booths, and private nooks tucked into out-of-the-way spaces. Thoughtfully arranged to provide visual sightlines, the design allows travelers to navigate and orientate themselves easily throughout the space.
Luxury combined with sustainability
Creating an inclusive environment that welcomes diverse nationalities to the world-class airport was a key design goal. Supporting United’s sustainability efforts, upgraded fixtures, and mechanical systems are designed to contribute to reaching LEED Silver Certification. The newly refreshed C1 Club, one of the busiest lounges in United’s network, is a space where guests are made to feel seen and well cared for as they continue the journey to their destination.
